Geographical notes
The municipality, located on the western bank of the Lario, has a largely mountainous territory that reaches 1,325 m s.l.m. at the summit of the Mount Bisbino.
Several hamlets are added to the capital. On the plain we find San Giuseppe and Mornello; in the lower hills Piazza Santo Stefano, Casnedo, Olzino, Stimianico, Sant'Andrea, Garotto; in the high hills Gentrino, Stomaino, Toldino, Rovenna; in the mountains Madrona, Duello, Pievenello, Piazzola, Böcc. There are also several scattered mountain localities; among the main ones: Scarone, Alpetto Gombee, Alvegia, Alpe Garzegallo.
The center of Cernobbio develops along the shores of the lake, including the medieval core and the area commonly known as "the shore": a large area on the lakeshore where the dock of the Navigazione del Lago di Como is located.

Like all tourist resorts, depending on the period, different facets of the place are appreciated. So in spring summer you can admire the colors of the lake and the landscapes; in autumn winter, if you have a romantic soul, you are won over by the charm of liberty villas.
Background
The municipality of Cernobbio was born from the grouping of houses around a convent (Coenobium) of 12th century nuns.
From there I had conquests and abandonments until the definitive transformation into the village from the foundation in 1872 of the Tessiture Bernasconi. Their expansion in the following years transformed the urban and social face of the city, with the creation of a citadel of silk that included the factory complex, offices and accommodation for the employees. The area is one of the few industrial archeology sites in the Como area. Also on the initiative of Davide Bernasconi, the "Bernasconi Kindergarten" was also built in 1881 and Villa Bernasconi in 1906, by the architect Alfredo Campanini.During the Second World War, Cernobbio became the area chosen for the quartering of the senior hierarchs of the III Reich as it is more sheltered from the air raids on Milan. Villa Erba becomes the hub of the military depot of the German military command, and the Regina Olga hotel is transformed into the headquarters of the high officials of the Germanic government. Villa d'Este was destined as a military hospital.After the 1940s, Cernobbio's growth increased sharply and a very large conurbation was created, so much so that, in the Italian golden years, Cernobbio became a sought-after tourist destination favoring development.
On 24 May 2005, the President of the Republic Carlo Azeglio Ciampi conferred the title of city in Cernobbio.

How to get
By plane
Cernobbio is about 60 km from the airport of Milan Malpensa, the second Italian hub after Rome Fiumicino. From terminals 1 and 2 of the airport it is possible to reach Como by train, changing at Saronno station (on the Milan Cadorna - Como Nord Lago, ticket cost € 10.90) .Cernobbio is also well connected with Milan Linate airport. From the airport take bus no. 73 (urban line, runs every 10 minutes from 5:35 am to 12:35 am, ticket cost € 1.5), get off at Piazza Diaz, and take the subway M1 to Milano Cardorna train station or M3 to Milano Centrale station to then reach Cernobbio in train.

The closest station to Cernobbio is Como San Giovanni, which can be reached from the stations of Milan (Certosa, Villapizzone, Porta Garibaldi and Greco Pirelli), Monza, Lecco and Chiasso (CH). It is also possible to arrive in Como with the Northern railways arriving at Como Nord Lago station (trains depart from Milan Cadorna). Timetables and frequency are available on Trenord, ticket cost € 4.80. From the stations it is possible to take the bus or the boat to reach Cernobbio.
By bus
Cernobbio is connected to Como by the urban bus line Line 6 Maslianico - Breccia direction Maslianico, ticket cost € 1.50. Cernobbio is also connected to the municipalities located on Lake Como by boat. From Como you can reach Cernobbio starting from the landing stage in Piazza Cavour (the navigation takes about 15 minutes).
