To know

How to orient yourself

Brunate is a 2.03 km² mid-mountain town, crossed by a main road, sometimes with a lane, mule tracks and paths. In addition to the road that connects Como to Brunate, access to the town is guaranteed via a funicular that connects the Lungo Lario Trieste in Como with Piazza Alberto Bonacossa in Brunate, overlooked by the Gran Hotel Milano and the Municipal Library.

The historic center, located with its back to Lake Como, is characterized by small streets with stairways that climb the slope, and is crossed by the main street Pietro and Maurizo Monti.

Fractions

The municipality is divided into four hamlets:

  • C.A.O. (acronym for Club Alpino Operaio), the northernmost hamlet of the municipality, at the end of the dirt road.
  • San Maurizio, between the historic center and the CAO, houses the church of San Maurizio and the Volta Lighthouse.
  • Plans of Brunate, south of the historic center, another residential area developed in the 1970s.
  • Pond, east of the historic center, takes its name from a small lake that was once present in this area.

The following areas are also part of the municipality:

  • Nidrino, west of the historic center, which includes a residential area developed in the 1970s and the municipal sports center.
  • Carescione, a residential area located about halfway along the Como - Brunate funicular route.
