getting there
In the region there are the two large airports Rome-Fiumicino "Leonardo da Vinci" (FCO) and Rome-Ciampino (CIA), which can be reached by direct flights from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Rome is the center of the Italian high-speed network (Le Frecce from Trenitalia and Italo the private railway NTV). The drive from Naples takes 1:10 hours, Florence 1½ hours, Bologna 2 hours, Milan 3 hours, Venice 3:45 hours, Turin 4 hours.
From the German-speaking area there are free night train connections with the ÖBB NightJet from Vienna via Klagenfurt and from Munich via Salzburg to Rome. Incidentally, you have to change at least once, usually in Milan (e.g. Zurich – Rome in just under 7 hours), Verona or Bologna (e.g. Munich – Rome in around 9 hours)

- Sacro Bosco or Parco dei Mostri (Park of the Monsters), mannerist park with grotesque monumental sculptures Bomarzo (Viterbo Province)
- Ostia Antica: Excavation site of the former port city of ancient Rome
- Gaeta: small port town (province of Latina) with a picturesque old town, medieval castle, Romanesque cathedral with bell tower

kitchen
- Supplì are Italian nibbles that consist of a scoop of rice (generally risotto) with tomato sauce and are typical of Lazio cuisine. Originally they were filled with chicken, minced meat or provatura (a type of cheese from Latium), now mostly with a piece of mozzarella. The croquette is dipped in egg, coated with breadcrumbs and then fried. Supplì can also be prepared without tomato sauce (supplì in bianco "supplì of the white type"). Supplì are eaten with the fingers.
- Bucatini all’amatriciana is a typical pasta dish from Lazio. Bucatini are pasta with a thin hole (similar to macaroni, but longer and thinner). They are paired with a slightly spicy tomato sauce with guanciale (pork cheek bacon), peperoncini and pecorino cheese. The sauce is named after the town of Amatrice in the east of Lazio (which was badly damaged in the 2016 and 2017 earthquakes). In Rome the sauce is made too alla matriciana called, which sounds the same, but means something like "mother's way". Spaghetti is sometimes used instead of bucatini.
