Located at the north-eastern end of Monte Orfano, Erbusco is located in Franciacorta, a flat area located to the south Lake Iseo and renowned for the production of wines.
Background
First documents on permanent settlements in the Erbusco area date back to the Etruscan era when a military fortress was built on Monte Orfano. Thanks to this construction, under the dominion of the Romans the town grew in importance to become one of the most important countries of the Franca Curtis, the current Franciacorta.
During the following centuries, numerous dominations followed one another until the fifteenth century when the town passed under the dominion of the Serenissima Republic of Venice.
Erbusco then passed under Austrian rule and, after the second war of independence, entered the Kingdom of Italy.
