The first settlements on the hills of Franciacorta that surround the city date back to the first millennium BC .. More certain settlements are those of the Cenomanian Gauls who settled in the area in the 6th century BC. With the fall of the Roman Empire, Rovato suffered a series of raids that ended in 568 AD. with the arrival of the Lombards. These, who converted to Christianity, restructured the Roman fortification present in the current area convent of the SS.
