How to orient yourself

Montichiari has an important historical core. The hamlets (Novagli, Bredazzane, S. Antonio, Ro, Santa Giustina, Vighizzolo, Chiarini, Boschetti, Teotti, Fascia d'Oro and Santellone) are located radially arranged in an orderly manner on the territory, "sentinels" on the great moor, almost as if to guard the territory, which is now heavily degraded, especially in the north. In the historic center of the city there are five recently renovated and pedestrianized squares:

  • Piazza Santa Maria - Formerly Piazza Garibaldi.
  • Piazza Treccani degli Alfieri - East of the Duomo, where the centuries-old Friday market took place at the beginning of the twentieth century.
  • Piazza Teatro - South west towards the ancient Borgosotto district, where the "Gaetano Bonoris" social theater is located.
  • Piazzetta San Rocco - To the south east where the library dedicated to Giovanni Treccani degli Alfieri is located, the creator and patron of the Treccani encyclopedia, and the Pasinetti art gallery known as a former hospital.
  • Piazza Municipio - A few steps from the San Rocco square, where the Town Hall is located.

Neighborhoods

Montichiari, in addition to the historic center, is divided into three other large districts:

  • Borgosotto district - Also called the ancient Borgo, divided into Borgosotto and Borgosopra, it is the oldest district of the city and the first residential settlement.
