  • 9 Franceschetti Palace - Martinelli, Via Albertano da Brescia, 3, @. Distinguished by the mighty red surrounding wall, the Franceschetti - Martinelli Palace was born in the Middle Ages as a set of different buildings, including peasant houses. In 1822 Giuseppe Piazzoni from Bergamo decided to buy the area to build a noble palace. Inside the palace there is a small church built in agreement with the curia for the peasants who lived on the estate. Around the villa there is a large English garden. When Piazzoni bought the land, the ancient church of S. Defendente was present in the garden, in ruins. The noble from Bergamo, following the romantic dictates, had it rebuilt only in part, installing decorations from the church of S.Antonio di Brescia (demolished in those years), but leaving it without a ceiling to preserve its dilapidated appearance. In the garden there is also an artificial cave. Today the palace is privately owned and rarely accessible to the public.
