Background

In Roman times, the main center was Martignago, while Sulzano originated from a lake port. Starting from the 17th century, the production of lime developed and only later the wool industry. Starting from the 19th century, the production of fishing nets also acquired importance.

From 18 June to 3 July 2016 the Bulgarian-American artist Christo has created a series of floating walkways, The Floating Piers on the waters of Lake Iseo. The walkways connected for 16 days Monte Isola to the mainland (Sulzano).
