Murten (in German Murten) is a municipality as well as the capital of the district of the Lake in the canton of Freiburg, in Swiss.

Murten is located on the North-South road (E4 A1Swiss.svg) Between Bern and Lausanne. The small medieval town is located on the Swiss Plateau on the outskirts of the Grand Marais. The city is built on a small hill, (450 m of altitude) which dominates the edge of the lake

Murten is served by good means of public transport. You have excellent rail connections to Berne with the regular trains of the RER Berne, the Friborg-Neuchâtel and Lyss-Payerne-Lausanne connections.

Lake Murten is part of the Three Lakes Region which has an excellent lake and river navigation network. Take the waterways, according to the winds and changes in the marine scenery, it is the most relaxing way to reach Murten.
