Geographical notes
The village of Moriolo is located in Val d'Egola, on the tufaceous slopes of the hill overlooking the right bank of the Egola stream, about 5 km from the municipal center of San Miniato, in Valdarno lower, along the road leading to Volterra.
Background
A town built in the early Middle Ages, it is mentioned for the first time in a public deed dated 7 May 786 with the toponym Morioro. In 1313 the village is remembered for having hosted the farrier of the emperor Arrigo VII. That same year the inhabitants of Moriolo rebelled against San Miniato and joined in Pisa: the village again passed to the San Miniato jurisdiction in 1318.

What see
- 1 Church of San Germano. Moriolo is a village already mentioned in a document of 786, and was later one of the castles of the municipality of San Miniato. Its church, dedicated to San Germano, in 1260 is among those dependent on the parish church of San Giovanni Battista a Armor. There is a polychrome terracotta relief depicting the Madonna and Child.
- Oratory of San Matteo. Known as "il chiesino", a small noble chapel of the historic villa of Sorrezzana, it dates back to the years between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. After decades of neglect, the oratory was completely restored in 1999 and the interior frescoed by the painter Luca Macchi.
