Murat-le-Quaire is a village of Puy de Dome.

Understand

TO 1 010 m altitude, Murat-le-Quaire, a small mountain village with houses covered with slate, overlooks, from its rocky outcrop, La Bourboule and the valley of the upper Dordogne.

Facing south, it is dominated by the volcanic peak of Banne d'Ordanche (1 515 m) where an orientation table offers a magnificent reading of the landscape on the Massif du Sancy and the Chaîne des Dômes.

The beech groves, fir trees and estives of the high pastures welcome beautiful hiking and mountain biking routes. Fishing, model aircraft and snowshoe treks complete these activities in various seasons.

Combined with the pleasures of nature, heritage and traditional crafts (mentioned at the Toinette Museum, a peasant woman from the last century), give this authentic village a unique atmosphere particularly conducive to healing.

Story

In the Middle Ages, the territory of Murat-le-Quaire included La Bourboule (which was only a hamlet). Following the discovery of the therapeutic virtues of its thermal waters, La Bourboule took its independence in 1875 and became a municipality in its own right. This is how it is readily said of La Bourboule that she is the daughter of Murat-le-Quaire.
