Understand

AT 1 050 m altitude, at the sources of the Dordogne, Le Mont-Dore is a real mountain village with Auvergne character. It developed at the end of the XIXe century around thermal activity. Formerly frequented by George Sand, Balzac or even Marcel Proust, the resort owes its notoriety not only to the purity of its air and the properties of its thermal waters: its ancient thermal baths, which combine remains of Roman colonnades and neo style. -byzantine, are among the most beautiful in Europe!

As early as 1936, the construction of a cable car made Mont-Dore the third winter sports resort in France. The quality and diversity of its activities, the wide variety of summer and winter sports structures and outdoor activities (hiking, gold mining, mountain biking, horseback riding, golf, adventure course in the trees ...) ensure the pleasure of vacationers looking for a change of scenery, calm and authenticity.

Its name comes from the Celtic word Hard or Golden, which means rapid stream, torrent.

The Mont-Dore cable car was one of the first in France. Its start-up in 1936 made Mont-Dore the 3e French winter sports resort.
