Located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Estuary of the Gironde, bordered to the south by Bordeaux and the Arcachon bay, the peninsula of Medoc is a geographical space with a preserved environment.
Understand
To go
- Two ferry services allow you to come to the Médoc, from the Charente Maritime (Le Verdon-Royan ferry), and from Haute-Gironde (Blaye-Lamarque ferry).
- By road, take exits 7 or 8 of the Bordeaux ring road (A630).
Exit 7 is particularly suitable for visiting the vineyards of the Médoc by the "Route des Châteaux" (D2Exit 8 is more recommended if you want to go to the Medoc coast.
- By train, a line serves the peninsula, from Bordeaux to the tip of the Médoc, passing through Margaux, Pauillac, Lesparre or Soulac for example.
- Finally, several bus lines serve the Médoc, leaving from Bordeaux, towards coastal or vineyard stations.

Even if more and more wine estates are opening their doors to you to let you discover their products and know-how, it is still desirable to announce your arrival in advance, but also to get advice from the tourist offices and wine houses. to choose the best properties to visit.

Coastal resorts offer very good "spots". Lacanau is even an international hotspot for surfing competition.
- Navigate
Lake Lacanau, and especially that of Carcans-Hourtin (along 18 km) constitute a very good setting for windsurfing, catamaran, or kite-surfing (note, practice authorized in Hourtin only).

These islands are gradually opening up to visitors. Probably the most unusual excursions that can be offered in Médoc.
- Getting around by bike
Cycling remains a particularly suitable means of travel and discovery, especially on the Medoc coast, where several hundred kilometers allow you to reach Le Verdon-sur-Mer from the Arcachon Basin, and to connect the ocean and the lakes. On the Pointe du Médoc, the cycle paths also link the ocean and the estuary.
