Naarden is a fortified city in the Dutch province North Holland on the edge of the landscape Het Gooi. She has been with Bussum and Muiden united to the municipality of Gooise Meren. Naarden is known as one of the best preserved fortified towns in Europe.

The port city originally located on the Zuiderzee between Amsterdam and Amersfoort was cut off from the sea by its damming and extensive drainage and is now located south of the Dutch A1 motorway on the Gooimeer, a residual lake of the Zuiderzee between the province Flevoland and the Het Gooi forest and heather area.
The well-preserved fortress built between 1675 and 1685 gives the town its special reputation.

There are frequent train connections from Amsterdam, Hilversum, Utrecht, Amersfoort and Almere to the Naarden-Bussum train station.

Tourist Attractions
- The main attraction is the one completely surrounded by water Fortress town, on whose walls beautiful walks are possible. This is located in the Turfpoort bastion Dutch Fortress Museum (Nederlands Vestingmuseum).
- Next is the Gothic one Sint-Vituskerk (Grote Kerk) from the 14th and 15th centuries with excellent acoustics is worth seeing.
- The town hall (Stadhuis) is a Renaissance building from 1601 with old furniture and paintings.
- In the City scales there is a Comenius Museum (Comenius lived in Naarden for a while and was buried here).
