The Babia Góra National Park(Polish: Babiogórski Park Narodowy) is one of ten UNESCO Biosphere Reserves in Poland. It is located in the south-western part Lesser Poland, in the mountain range de Saybuscher Beskids, on the border with Slovakia. It gets its name from the mountain in it Babia Gora.

history

The park was designated as early as 1954, and in 1977 by UNESCO UNESCO world heritage Declared UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and included in the Man and Biosphere (MAB) program.

landscape

The national park is 1700 hectares, includes the northern and southern sides of the massif with the highest mountain in the Beskids, the Babia Góra (Diablak). The massif consists of sedimentary rocks. The north walls of the massif were created as a result of huge landslides.

Flora and fauna

It is home to primeval forests in which bears, wolves and lynx still live, as well as many species of birds such as capercaillie, eared owls, Urale owls, eagle owls, woodpeckers, brown alps and rock pipit. Deer, dormouse, dormouse and garden dormouse are also represented in large numbers.

The weather in the nature park can be very changeable, especially at higher altitudes, with sudden drops in temperature, quickly rising fog and unexpected showers.

You can hike and climb in the park along the hiking trails. Eleven designated hiking trails with lengths between 1.5 and 11 kilometers open up the park, as well as three ski routes between 1.5 and 3 kilometers in length.
