The municipality of Neckarwestheim is located a few 100 m from the right bank of the Neckar on a plateau. The place was first mentioned in 1123. 1555 received at that time Cold west named place the market law. In the 17th century the community came to Württemberg. At the request of the municipality, King Karl of Württemberg approved the change of the place name to Neckarwestheim.

The place experienced an economic boom at the end of the 1970s after a former quarry Neckarwestheim nuclear power plant was built and ensured good business tax revenue. This allowed the place to spend more money creating and maintaining it than other communities of comparable size. This is visible e.g. B. on the spacious sports facilities, the new town hall and the renovation of the old school building from 1890.

Liebenstein Castle

The castle is located about 1 km south of the municipality of Neckarwestheim. It can be reached via a well-signposted path that branches off the road towards Gemmrigheim at the sports grounds. The construction goes back to a castle of the Lords of Liebenstein. It was redesigned in the 16th century in the Renaissance style. In 1678 the castle came into the possession of the House of Württemberg. The municipality of Neckarwestheim bought the building in 1982 and had it completely renovated. A golf course with 27 holes was laid out near the castle and is operated by Liebenstein Golf Club, the castle serves as a hotel.
