Location and importance
Heilbronn am Neckar is an independent city. The district office of the Heilbronn district is also here. Heilbronn is the regional center of the Heilbronn-Franconia region. The next major city is Stuttgart.

Heilbronn was first mentioned historically in 741 as "Helibrunna". In 1281 it received city rights and became a free imperial city. The Heilbronn 1 Central Station is the central regional railway junction in Heilbronner Land. The regional trains of Deutsche Bahn connect Heilbronn from here in all directions with other major cities, such as Stuttgart, Heidelberg, Mannheim, Würzburg, Schwäbisch Hall and Crailsheim. In the station itself there are also some shopping facilities, the Deutsche Bahn travel center and a station mission. All platforms are barrier-free with elevators. They were renewed and increased in 2019 so that boarding the trains is easier. The stop is on the station forecourt Heilbronn main station / Willy-Brandt-Platz, from which three tram lines (S4, S41 and S42) depart. They connect the numerous tram stops in downtown Heilbronn with the cities in the surrounding area, such as Karlsruhe, Öhringen, Neckarsulm, Sinsheim and Mosbach.

Heilbronn is only served sporadically in long-distance services of the German railways. The closest ICE train stations are Mannheim or Stuttgart, where you have to change trains.

By boat
Passenger shipping on the Neckar plays a rather minor role, but traveling by ship is the best Passenger shipping stump possible. City tours
Since August 2017 in Heilbronn City tours offered in the red double-decker bus.
- On the red line, fifty sights of the city are presented in 100 minutes; you can also get on or off at all eight stops on the way. The day ticket for the city tour costs 18 € for each adult, two children up to 14 years travel for free with each paying adult. Each additional child pays 8 €.

In the 18th century, funerals usually take place here. From 1802 to 1804 the Nikolaikirche is also a school, in 1805 French soldiers seize the church and convert it into a hospital. From 1820 the building was rented out and used in a wide variety of ways: as a workshop, as a fire station, as a polling station and assembly hall and finally even as a gym. However, citizens collect donations and want the church to be used again according to its original purpose - which is achieved in 1851. During the air raid on Heilbronn in 1944, the Nikolaikirche was destroyed down to the walls. Castles and Palaces
Due to the destruction caused by the bombing of Heilbronn on the evening of December 4, 1944, very few representative buildings have survived in the city center. These include the Deutschhof and the Käthchenhaus at the market square.

- 5 Shooting house, Frankfurter Strasse 65, 74072 Heilbronn (near the main train station). Built from 1769 to 1771 as a shooting house, the baroque shooting house served a wide variety of purposes throughout its history.
