The city of Öhringen is located in the valley of the Ohrn, a small river that flows into the Kocher in the Ohrnberg district. In Roman times there was a border post with two forts on the Limes. The place was first mentioned in a document in 1037. The turmoil of the Peasants 'War and the Thirty Years' War did not leave the city unscathed. Only after Öhringen became the Hohenlohe residence in 1677 did the city experience an upswing. In 1806 the Hohenlohe principalities were added to the Kingdom of Württemberg. Öhringen became a district town and remained so until the municipal reform in 1973.

During the municipal reform, the formerly independent municipalities became Baumerlenbach, Büttelbronn, Cappel, Eckartsweiler, Michelbach am Wald, Possible, Ohrnberg, Schwöllbronn and Verrenberg City districts incorporated, including some other residential areas.

miscellaneous

There are several wells in Öhringen. One of the most famous is the 5 Hamballe fountain . A Hamballe is usually a good-natured person in Hohenlohe and partly in Swabian who stands in his own way or stands out due to unorthodox behavior. The Hamballe fountain, for example, shows a man who waters the flowers when it rains. The fact that the people of Öhringen also refer to each other as Hamballe only shows that they also have a sense of humor.
