Besigheim is a city on the Neckar in Baden-Wuerttemberg.
background
The old town of Besigheim lies on an elongated hill, which is surrounded by the Enz in the west and the Neckar in the east. In the north of the hill is the confluence of the Enz into the Neckar.
The place was first mentioned in a deed of donation in 1153, when it was donated by the Staufer King Barbarossa to a margrave of Baden. Besigheim changed hands several times in a row until it finally became property of Württemberg in 1595.
The formerly independent municipality of Ottmarsheim has belonged to Besigheim since 1971.
Besigheim maintains a total of three city partnerships in Europe:
- With Ay from the Champagne-Ardenne region in France. This partnership has existed since 1966. Ay is located near Epernay, northeast of Paris.
- With Newton Abbot from Teignbridge district in Great Britain. This partnership has existed since 1979. Newton Abbot is located in the south west of England, between Dartmoor and the Channel coast.
- With Bátaszék in Hungary. This partnership has existed since 1992. Bátaszék is about 180 km south of Budapest.
Besigheim has been a state-approved resort since 2005. In 2010, the TV viewers of the MDR voted Besigheim for most beautiful wine town in Germany, and in 2013 the Winzerfest was chosen as the 2013 Wine Festival in a competition by WELT am SONNTAG.

Besigheim is on the railway line from Stuttgart above Ludwigsburg to Heilbronn and the 1 railway station is therefore approached every hour or half an hour.

Events:
- The Besigheim wine festival. It currently takes place every two years, always in the so-called odd years, in September, the first time in 1950. The festival begins on Friday afternoon and ends on Monday at midnight. On Saturday from 1 p.m. there will be a jousting on the Enz. On Sunday from 1 p.m. there will be a large parade with music and dance groups as well as numerous motif wagons through the city center. The flagship of the parade is the Besigheim school group, consisting of: the Besga school, the bailiff and the night watchman. - The Besigheim mulled wine village at the parking lot on the Enz, has been an annual event in January and February since 2019. The mulled wine village of Besigheim invites you to try various mulled wines from the region. Wineries present their wines. In the flickering light of the wood fire you can enjoy the evening with a delicious mulled wine and on Saturdays with live music.
