Marbach is a city in Neckar basin.

Marbach am Neckar is the poet's birthplace Friedrich Schiller. It is located in the central Neckar area on a hill on the right side of the river. The place was first mentioned in a document in 972, it has been part of Württemberg since 1302.

One reaches the 1 Marbach station from Stuttgart with the S-Bahn line S4 above Ludwigsburg.
In the street
From the autobahn 14 Pleidelsheim can be reached via the L1125 to Murr, from there the L1000 to Marbach.

There is one in the summer months Ship connection from Stuttgart / Bad_Cannstatt. The 2 Pier in Marbach is located about 100 meters upstream from the pedestrian bridge over the Neckar directly at the beer garden.

Marbach is right on the Alb-Neckar-Weg and on Neckar Valley way, one of the most beautiful cycle paths in southern Baden-Württemberg.

Old town
The old town is still surrounded on three sides by a city wall. You get inside through 3 gates, the upper gate tower leads to Marktstrasse. In the middle is that 1 town hall with carillon that can be heard several times a day. Also worth seeing are the numerous well-preserved half-timbered buildings, primarily the houses where the poet was born Friedrich Schiller and the mathematician and astronomer Tobias Mayer. Large parts of the historic old town are as Cultural monument protected.
Schillerhöhe
About 500 m south of the old town is the Schillerhöhe. The poet's monument stands in the middle of a park, he looks directly at the building of the 4 Schiller National Museum. To the right of that is that German Literature Archive, it says on the left 5 Modern Literature Museum. The park was laid out around 1840, and there are mighty old trees in it. From the Schillerhöhe you have a beautiful view down into the Neckar valley.
The access to the Schillerhöhe is well signposted, there is good free parking, also for buses.
