Steinheim an der Murr is a small town at the mouth of the Bottwar in the Murr.
background
Steinheim an der Murr was first mentioned in a document in 832. However, the area was settled much earlier. The margraves of Baden built a courtyard on the remains of Roman buildings in the 12th century. The oldest evidence of human settlement was discovered in 1933: the 250,000 year old skull of one was found in a gravel pit Homo Steinheimensis.
The places belong to Steinheim Höpfigheim and Kleinbottwar. The village on the western edge of Steinheim Murr is an independent municipality.
