Winnenden is a small Swabian town and is located in a bay of the Neckar basin on the western edge of the Swabian Forest in the center of Baden-Württemberg.

Winnenden in the Rems-Murr-Kreis has been a major district town since 1973, and the core town still includes 8 smaller districts. The city has belonged to Württemberg since 1325, but the city palace was still part of the Teutonic Order until 1665. The city became known through the killing spree on March 11, 2009, in which Tim K. shot and killed several students and teachers. In addition, Winnenden is known throughout Baden-Württemberg for the Paulinenpflege, a nursing home for the disabled.
