The town Schorndorf lies in the middle of Baden-Wuerttemberg.

Schorndorf is located in the Remstal, surrounded by Virgin forest in the south and from Swabian-Franconian Forest with the ridge Berglen and the Welzheimer forest in the North. The city has belonged to Württemberg since 1250. Today the city belongs to the Rems-Murr-Kreis. The town of Schorndorf also includes other districts that were formerly independent municipalities: Buhlbronn, Haubersbronn, Miedelsbach, Oberberken, Unterberken, Schlichten, Schornbach and Weiler.

A famous citizen and role model of the city was Barbara Künkelin, wife of the then mayor of Schorndorf. According to tradition, she led the uprising of the Schorndorf women who saved the city from surrender and sacking by French troops in 1688. One of the most famous Schorndorf citizens was Gottlieb Daimler. The engineer and designer developed the first high-speed gasoline engine and the first four-wheeled motor vehicle with a combustion engine.

The 1 Schorndorf station is located in the city center. It's on the railway line Stuttgart - Bask and is served by intercity trains on the Karlsruhe – Nuremberg line, regional express trains on the Stuttgart - Bask or. Crailsheim as well as the Stuttgart S-Bahn. Schorndorf station is the final stop on the Stuttgart S-Bahn line S2 (Schorndorf – Stuttgart – Airport – Filderstadt). You can take the S2 from Stuttgart Airport to Schorndorf without having to change trains.

Schorndorf can be reached from Stuttgart via Waiblingen on the motorway-like developed B29.

  • The historical Wieslauftalbahn with steam locomotive drives from Schorndorf to Welzheim and back. The train first travels through the Wieslauftal and then crosses several viaducts. Since there are hardly any parking spaces in the old town of Schorndorf, one should use the multi-storey car parks and parking spaces near the center. Wrong parking is quickly discovered and rewarded with a 'parking ticket'.
