The city of Sachsenheim was established in 1971-1973 as part of a community reform through the merger of the villages of Sachsenheim (formerly Großsachsenheim) and Kleinsachsenheim on the Metter and the villages of Hohenhaslach, Spielberg, Ochsenbach and Häfnerhaslach in the Kirbachtal.
