The locality Zaberfeld has existed for around 1000 years. In the course of its history it belonged to Baden for a few years, then became a Württemberg fiefdom and finally came to Württemberg through purchase in 1749. In the course of the community reform from 1970 to 1975, the formerly independent communities of Zaberfeld, Leonbronn, Michelbach and Ochsenburg merged to form today's community of Zaberfeld.

Neighboring places are Eppingen and Pfaffenhofen (Heilbronn district), Sachsenheim (Ludwigsburg district), Star Rock (Enzkreis) and Kürnbach and Sulzfeld (Karlsruhe district).
