Hessigheim is a municipality on the northern edge of the Neckar basin.
background
Hessigheim lies on the right bank of the Neckar, which flows around the village on three sides. The village was mentioned in a document as early as 774. The municipality has belonged to Württemberg since 1595 and is the smallest municipality in the Ludwigsburg district. The Felsengartenkellerei is based in Hessigheim and is run by winemakers Besigheim, Hessigheim, Bietigheim, Gemmrigheim, Löchgau and Walheim.

By train
Hessigheim has no connection to the rail network. The nearest train station is around 5 km away in Besigheim, there are bus connections to Hessigheim.
In the street
From the autobahn A81 can be reached from the exit 
13 Mundelsheim after about 5 km to Hessigheim. There is also a good transport connection along the Neckar B27which runs through Besigheim about 4 km away.

By boat
In the summer months the ships of the Neckar captain in Hessigheim. One landing stage is near the sports field directly at the village on the right side of the Neckar, a second is at the rock gardens on the left side of the Neckar. You can reach this landing stage on foot, about a kilometer away from the sales rooms of the rock cellar, via paved dirt roads and a footbridge over the Neckar.

The place is quite small and easy to explore on foot. There are also guided covered wagon rides with tractors and e-bikes for rent.

The rock gardens
On the western outskirts of Hessigheim, the Neckar changes direction, flows north and meets a steep bank there. The 1 Hessigheim rock gardens, a shell limestone formation that has produced quite rugged rock needles on the upper edge of the breakoff. Wine is grown on the steep slopes near the shore, the rock area is a nature reserve. In recent years, the areas particularly endangered by erosion have been carefully secured. There is an educational wine trail in the rock gardens and on the Wurmberg. From the top of the rock gardens you have a good view of Michaelsberg near Cleebronn am Stromberg.

- Hiking trails are signposted in the rock gardens. Some of them are quite steep, and in wet weather they are also slightly slippery and should only be walked on with good footwear. However, the asphalt towers through the vineyards are very manageable.

Climb
Some rocks in the front part of the Rock gardens are suitable for climbing, whereby it is essential to pay attention to porous areas of the shell limestone. The DAV climbing brochure can be downloaded from the website.
To go biking
Hessigheim is on Neckar valley cycle path. From here you can take a detour to the Enz Valley Cycle Path Via a branch line, Hessigheim is also part of the Stuttgart e-bike region.

The Migratory birds offer canoe tours in the area of Hessigheim and Besigheim.
