Geographical notes
Norte de Minas borders the following regions: to the north with the State of Bahia, to the east and southeast with Jequitinhonha and Mucuri, southwest with Central western Minas and to the west with Noroeste de Minas.

It is divided into 7 micro-regions.
Urban centers
- Bocaiúva - The fifth most populous city in the Norte de Minas.
- Grão Mogol - In the rural area there are many natural attractions including the Canyon do Extrema made of deep pools of water and several waterfalls.
- Janaúba - City immersed in rivers and other natural resources.
- Januária - Located on the bank of one of the main rivers of the Brazil, which in summer the shallow water gives way to bathing beaches.
- Montes Claros - It has countless caves and over 150 archaeological sites.
- Pirapora - It is the second largest industrial pole in the north Minas Gerais.
- Salinas - City is known for traditions, folklore and agricultural production.
