Norðoyar (or Norðoyggyar) is a region of the Faroe Islands.
To know
The six northern islands (Borðoy, Kunoy, Kalsoy, Viðoy, Svínoy and Fugloy) have been an administrative zone since Norse times. The volcanic origins of the islands here are more marked than elsewhere and the landscape is spectacular.

How to get
By car
Rent a car. The journey by car from Torshavn to Viðareiði is the longest possible trip on the islands without using a ferry and involves several tunnels, including the toll tunnel "The Northern Isles Tunnel" (Norðoyatunnilin) from Eysturoy to Borðoy and two tunnels with right of way in one direction (lay-bys).
By bus
Buses connect the islands with Tórshavn. They go through the long tunnel of the Northern Isles.
How to get around
What see
- Moorings on both sides of Viðareiði. What a contrast! On the one hand, where the church is located, the Atlantic is placid; on the other it is stormy!
- Viðareiði Church. Although similar to most other churches on the islands, it is worth seeing for its silver, which includes a flag presented by the British government to help sailors rescued from a wreck in the mid 19th century.
What to do
At the table
- Norð hotels.
- Matstovan hjá Elisabeth.
