Nyalam is around 220 km away from Tingri. To Nepalese Limit at Zhangmu it's only 35 km, but on the way there has to be the 5020 m high Lalung La, the Lalung Pass.

Nyalam is a small town whose square stone houses with their tin roofs will probably not require anyone to stay.
About 11 km north is on the Friendship Highway at (28 ° 11 '27 "N.85 ° 59 ′ 8 ″ E) but the Buddhist pilgrimage site Milarepa's cave . At this place is a small village, and word of a visit quickly spread among its curious youth. For Europeans, the look down will probably be Lapchi Gang Valley be the main attraction, followed by the village's original farmhouses. Flatbreads with yak dung are piled up on the walls; it is used as fuel.
A short walk leads down to the actual destination, a newly built temple. This encloses the cave in which around 1100 the Buddhist philosopher Milarepa lived and meditated. The outside of the temple was completed in May 2010, but there is still a lot of work to be done inside, which will be completed in June 2012.

From the road to the temple around Milarepa's cave, a new, well-developed footpath leads down about 30 meters in altitude. In the thin air, going back can cause breathing problems.
