Nyons is a tourist town in the Drome Provençal, near the Mont Ventoux.

Understand

The town enjoys a mild and sunny climate which has earned it its nickname "Little Nice". It also benefits from an astonishing light, unspoiled landscapes and a terroir of exceptional quality which the olive has always been a symbol of.

Indeed its variety, the tench, earned the city the first AOC for olives and olive oil in France. The products of the vineyards (AOC Côtes du Rhône) and the scents of lavender complete the appeal of this "Remarkable Site of Taste".

Nyons undoubtedly deserves this quote from the native of the country, the writer René Barjavel: "The difference between Nyons and Paradise is that we are very much alive there".

A rich historical heritage also explains the attachment of many tourists to Nyons and its region. The Roman Bridge (listed monument since 1925), the Tour Randonne and the church of Saint Vincent with its remarkable acoustics are, together with the Place des "Arcades", the main jewels. The traditional and renowned Thursday morning market is held on the latter, among other places, supplemented on Sundays during the summer season by a Provencal market.

An aquatic leisure park, Nyonsoleïado, open from late May to early September, attracts many enthusiasts who come to indulge in the pleasures of water and sun. Themed trails and a “garden of aromas” encourage walkers to discover the city's natural and heritage sites.

Typical festivities: the flowered Easter parade, reading in May, the eco-organic fair, the medieval Pontias, free summer concerts and the “tales and encounters” festival are all colorful moments that punctuate the calendar nyonsais. Without forgetting the activities linked to the local emblem: the Alicoque which celebrates new oil, the olivades in July and the feast of the pricked olive in December.
