Oostkapelle is a seaside resort on Walcheren in the Dutch province Zeeland. The village is located on the northwest coast of the Walcheren peninsula and thus on the open North Sea. It belongs to the church Veere.

background

Oostkapelle has grown significantly as a result of tourism. Large recreational areas were created between the village and the dunes. Today Oostkapelle is a real family pool. The clean and wide sandy beach - awarded the blue flag - is less than 2 km from the village. Oostkapelle combines beach fun with a cozy village center, whose tourist market is popular in summer. To the west of the village are old ones in the wooded area Buitenplaatsen like Duinvliet, Overduin, Berkenbosch and Zeeduin, which were built by Middelburg merchants during the VOC era.

The church was almost completely destroyed in 1572 and replaced by the current reformed church in 1623. As if by a miracle (!) The picture was preserved. A copy from the 16th century can be seen in the Petrus-en-Pauliskerk in Middelburg.
