How to get
On the train
- 34.733611135.51 Shin-Ōsaka station (新 大阪 駅, shin-ōsaka-eki) (Line ). Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen (新 幹線) trains arrive north of the city center. From Shin-Osaka you connect to the city center using the Midosuji subway line, or by connecting the JR local network for other destinations.
- The distances and approximate prices of the main cities are as follows, from west to east:
- From points west of Osaka, trains Nozomi depart from Okayama (¥ 6060, 45 min), Hiroshima (¥ 10,150, 80 min) and from Hakata a Fukuoka (¥ 14,890, 2 hours 15 mins). Japan Rail Pass holders can use the service instead Sakura (さ く ら) or Hikari, which travels at a speed comparable to the Nozomi and makes a few more stops, but its trains are shorter (trains with 8 carriages, compared to 16 on the Nozomi ). The trains Kodama slower ones connect the rest of the stations on the route.
- Himeji (80 km): by Shinkansen, 30 minutes (¥ 2,500); JR line, 1 hour (¥ 1,200) every 15 minutes
- Kobe (30 km): by Shinkansen, 15 minutes (¥ 1,200); JR line still offers a slightly faster and slightly more expensive service than Hankyu, 20 min (¥ 300) every 15 min. The other choice is the Hanshin Railway, which is identical to Hankyu in cost and similar over time, useful for getting to Koshien Stadium. All three last lines go to Osaka / Umeda in about 20 minutes.
- Nara (40 km), South: JR line offers trains to Tennōji and Osaka stations, Kintetsu offers trains to Namba. Kintetsu Station in Nara is closer to Tōdaiji and Nara Park. 30 minutes (¥ 400), every 15 minutes.
- Kyoto (50 km): by Shinkansen, 17 minutes (¥ 1,500); the JR line offers fast trains, but slightly more expensive, shin-kaisoku (special express) to Osaka Station: 30 minutes (¥ 550) every 15 minutes. The cheaper but slower alternative is the Hankyu Railway's limited express service . Both lines terminate in the Umeda area of Osaka. The Keihan railway offers Kyoto-Osaka trains. Osaka's Yodoyabashi Terminal does not connect directly with JR, but it is possible to transfer to the JR Osaka Loop Line in Kyobashi. In Kyoto, the Keihan trains and Hankyu they do not connect with JR Kyoto station, but both travel to stations that are more convenient to reach the city center in 30-45 minutes.
- Tokyo (550 km): trains Nozomi (の ぞ み) cover the one-way ride in about 2 hours and 15 minutes (¥ 14,050); The trains Hikari (ひ か り) take 3 hours and all trains Kodama (こ だ ま) take 4 hours (both ¥ 13750). With the Japan Rail Pass, there is no cost to take the Shinkansen if using the service Hikari or Kodama. There are trains every 10 minutes.
- The trains Sakura depart from Kyushu, with service to Osaka available from Kumamoto (¥ 18,000, 3 hours and 15 mins) e Kagoshima (¥ 21,300, 4 hours). The trains Mizuho (み ず ほ) are slightly faster and slightly more expensive. If you have a Japan Rail Pass, the Mizuho cannot be used.
- From Nagoya, an alternative to Shinkansen is Kintetsu's limited premium express service, the Urban Liner (ア ー バ ン ラ イ ナ ー) which goes directly to Namba. Travel times are just two hours each way, with departures at 0 and 30 minutes past the hour at a cost of ¥ 4150. By comparison, the shinkansen takes just under an hour for ¥ 5670.
