Minami (大阪 ミ ナ ミ) is a district of the city of Osaka.
To know
Minami is the largest shopping area in Osaka. All kinds of shops and entertainment can be found in this area, which extends from Semba (Honmachi) to the area surrounding Namba station. In Minami, locals and tourists alike can enjoy the atmosphere of the city of Osaka.

How to get
On the train
There are three main railway stations in this area, namely Namba Railway Station, JR-Namba Railway Station and Osaka-Namba Railway Station. The three train stations are close to each other.
The fastest trains between Kasai International Airport and Osaka Station are "Ltd. Express Rapi: t" which operates with Namkai Railway. The journey takes approximately 34 minutes and costs ¥ 1390: ¥ 890 regular fare ¥ 500 limited express fare.

1 Glico. This image placed on a billboard of a man running with his arms raised is the famous mascot of the city of Ōsaka. From the vantage point you will notice many people taking pictures and portraying with their arms raised just like Glico.
- 2 Ebisu Bridge (Ebisubashi). From this famous bridge you can see the navigable canal but above all you stop to photograph the Glico sign.

Tue-Sun 11: 00-18: 00. A rather small museum in Nanba dedicated to ukiyoe, Japanese woodblock prints. The inside of the museum looks a bit like a brick house. It might be more interesting for someone who is already familiar with the art, as the information is mostly in Japanese only.

- 1 [link not working]Sumo Spring Grand Tournament (大 相撲 春 場所) (Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium, a 10-minute walk from the Namba subway stop).
¥ 3000- ¥ 14.300. The Osaka tournament of Japan's national sport, sumo, is usually held in mid-March every year at Osaka Prefecture's Gymnasium. Check the timetables and ticket availability on the official Nihon Sumo Kyokai homepage.
- 2 National Bunraku Theater, 1-12-10 Nipponbashi (Nippombashi). One of the last places in the world where bunraku, a form of intricate Edo-period puppet theater, can be seen live. The large puppets, requiring three operators each, are accompanied by traditional music and storytelling, and perform great Japanese operas from the 1600s and 1700s. Japanese transcriptions and English synopses are provided.

Shopping
Osaka's most famous shopping district is 1 Shinsaibashi (心 斎 橋), which offers a mix of huge department stores, upscale western designer shops, and independent boutiques ranging from very cheap to very expensive. Within Shinsaibashi, the area Amerika-mura (ア メ リ カ 村, often abbreviated to "Amemura") or "American Village" is particularly popular with young people and is often considered the source of most of the youth fashion trends in Japan. Near Amerika-mura, Horie (堀 江) is a commercial street of mainly Japanese brand stores. Umeda's many shops are also popular with trendy clubs, particularly in buildings Hep Five is Hep Navio adjacent to Hankyu Umeda Station, although these shops tend to be too expensive to capture the interest of tourists. In this area, new commercial buildings have recently been built. For example, buildings E-but next to the department store Hanshin is Nu-Chayamachi (Nu 茶屋 町), opened in October 2005 near Hankyu Umeda station.
For electronics, the area of Nipponbashi (日本 橋) southeast of Namba, and specifically the shopping street 2 Den-Den Town, was once considered theAkihabara of western Japan; nowadays, more and more people prefer to shop in the new, huge camera Yodobashi (ヨ ド バ シ カ ラ in) in Umeda o BicCamera (ビ ッ ク カ メ ラ) e LABI1 in Namba, though Nipponbashi still offers good deals on many new and used gadgets, PC components and industrial electronics.
How to have fun
Try the Amemura area. There you will find all kinds of bars with different genres, from hip-hop to reggae.

22:00-05:00. Cozy little karaoke bar is almost impossible to find, but worth it. Foreign Japanese and English speaking staff and over 130,000 songs to choose from. The owner, Richard, is a long-term resident of Japan and is packed with information on what to do and see in the area, where to stay and even where to find work.

Hub serves as a meeting point for many expats and also for Japanese locals. Get there early for happy hour discounts on cocktails (5-7 pm).

Moderate prices
- 1 Tako Tako King, Chūō-ku, Higashishinsaibashi, 1 Chome − 13−29 23 ア ー バ ン エ ー ス 東 心 斎 橋 パ ル (In the Shinsaibashi area, on the north side of the Dotonbori River and west of Midosuji). This takoyaki place has very friendly staff. Look for the big red octopus wearing a crown.

17:00-05:00. Torikizoku is the most popular yakitori chain in Kansai and can be found near major Osaka stations. The food is delicious, comes in generous plates and is very inexpensive. It is very popular with locals and expats, and is always busy. Try to come before 7:30 to secure seats.

Wed-Mon 11: 30-21: 30. Shabu-shabu or sukiyaki in Japanese tatami rooms. No reservations are made except for large groups, so arrive early in the evening (around 6pm) to be sure you get a room without waiting.

¥ 4000-5000. Now a national chain, but this is the original. Easily identifiable by the giant mechanical crab flapping its claws, and as you can imagine, the specialty here is crab.
Where stay
For the light traveler, an inexpensive way to stay in a nice hotel is to simply enjoy the food and atmosphere along the canal until midnight, then take advantage of the various discounts after midnight (typically around 30% off the normal nightly rate ). For example, the Tokoyo Inn reduces single room prices from ~ ¥ 6500 to ¥ 4500 and the Dormy Inn from ¥ 7000 to ¥ 4900.
