Central Ostrobothnia (Keski-Pohjanmaa or Mellersta Österbotten in Swedish) is a region of the Finnish west coast.

It borders the regions ofOstrobothnia, Southern Ostrobothnia, Northern Ostrobothnia is Central Finland.
Background
Central Ostrobothnia has been inhabited since 5,000 years ago. There are traces of houses dating back to that period near the ancient mouths of rivers and the coast. The most ancient symbols were found near the ancient sea coast which, due to the elevation of the region, is nowadays about 100 meters above sea level.
The oldest building in the region is the Kaarlela church a Kokkola, built in 1494.
Spoken languages
The Central Ostrobothnia dialect is part of the group of Western dialects, although it also has features typical of Eastern ones. Due to immigration from the Savo region, the characteristics of this dialect are more marked than that of theNorthern Ostrobothnia.
The Swedish dialects spoken in the southwestern part of the region are very distinctive and vary greatly from country to country.

By plane

Kokkola is the main railway hub on the north-south route; this facilitates train travel both to the southern and northern parts of the country.
