Territories and tourist destinations
Urban centers
- Zwolle - Historic Hanseatic city, also famous for a restaurant awarded 3 stars by the strict Michelin guide.
- Deventer - One of the "Hanzesteden" of the ninth century.
- Enschede - The largest city in Overijssel and the one with the largest number of students.
- Holten - Small town of 10,000 inhabitants, Holten is located at the southern entrance of the Sallandse Heuvelrug national park and features interesting attractions such as Natuurmuseum Holterberg Diorama.
- Kampen - Hanzestad city with many historical glimpses.
- Oldenzaal - Town of 30,000 inhabitants which is a holiday resort thanks to the nearby lake of Hulsbeek.
- Ootmarsum - A small town with some notable attractions such as the open air museum and, nearby, the Springendal nature reserve described below.
Other destinations
- 1 Giethoorn - A unique village of its kind, with no streets and famous for its wooden houses and bridges (there are more than 176) surrounded by greenery that have given it the nickname "Venice of the Netherlands". Once a classic destination off the beaten path, Giethoorn has now become an equally classic trap for gullible and unwary tourists.
- 2 Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park
- 3 Weerribben-Wieden National Park - Between swamps and lakes including De Wieden, which attracts holiday-makers in summer and skaters in winter.
