Pécsvárad [pEčvArad] is a small town and tourist destination in southeastern Transdanubia in Hungary.

Pécsvárad is located on a plain and hills at the foot of the Mecsek mountain range. Komló is 14, Pécs and Bonyhád po 18, Bóly 23, Bátaszék 24, Budapest 156 kilometers.
History
The first Hungarian king founded a monastery there, a chapel was built in the 12th century, but the first mention took place only in 1316. The place became a village in 1439. Before the arrival of the Turks a fort was built next to the monastery, which later the Turks occupied in 1594. Pécsvárad received city rights in 1993.
