Pavia is a city of Lombardy north ofItaly.
Understand
Capital of the Lombard kingdom and seat of one of the oldest Italian universities, Pavia is undoubtedly a city with an important past, of which many traces are preserved. Among the churches, San Michele Maggiore is considered one of the masterpieces of Lombard Romanesque art, as is San Pietro in Ciel d'Oro, which houses the relics of Saint Augustine. There is Gothic style in Santa Maria del Carmine square, while the Duomo is Renaissance style. Among the remarkable monuments, the Ponte Coperto on Ticino and the Visconti castle.
To go
Spring is without a doubt the best season to visit the city. Autumn is often rainy, and in winter the temperatures can be very cold. In summer, on the contrary, the temperatures are very hot. In addition, with the onset of heat, mosquitoes, numerous and ruthless, appear. If you plan to visit the city during the summer months, getting an effective repellant is highly recommended.
By plane
Pavia is about 40 km from Milan Linate airport and approximately 60 km by Malpensa.
Autoservizi Migliavacca ([1]) offers a connecting service between Pavia and Linate, at a cost of 15 € (€ 9 for students).
Malpensa, however, is not directly connected to the city, and it is necessary to go through Milan.
By train
Most regional trains go through Pavia station, but there are also connections with Genoa (by Intercity) and Rome (by Frecciabianca), as well as with Vercil and Alexandria.
The proximity to Milan makes the city more accessible: from the center of Milan, regional and Intercity trains leave every half hour for Pavia, with a journey time of 30 to 35 min.
By bus
The city is mainly connected to the other Lombard municipalities and there is also a direct link with Milano Famagosta.
Circulate
The historic center of Pavia is bordered by a ring road of avenues and largely has a square plan, which makes it easy to navigate.
