Pienza is a city of Tuscany, declared by UNESCO World Heritage.

Geographical notes

Its municipal territory, together with that of four other Sienese municipalities (Montalcino, San Quirico d'Orcia, Radicofani is Castiglione d'Orcia), constitutes the Val d'Orcia Artistic, Natural and Cultural Park, included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 2004. It is also part of the "Jewels of Italy"evaluated by MiBACT.

Pope Pius II

The history of Pienza is closely linked to that of Enea Silvio Piccolomini born in Corsignano, now Pienza in his honor, in 1405 and became pope in 1458 with the name of Pius II.He transformed his hometown into a papal residence in the Renaissance style.
