Piran is one of the most beautiful coastal cities Slovenia, located on a headland protruding into the Mediterranean. Piran was part of the Venetian Empire from the late 13th to the end of the 18th century, which is clearly evident in the city's architecture.

By plane

  • 1  Aerodrome Portorož. The regional airfield is located near Sečovlje, just under one kilometer north of the border with Croatia. The eponymous tourist resort Portorož is about 6 kilometers away. The runway measures 1200 × 30 meters and has lighting for night landings. The airport offers air-taxi flights, panoramic flights, a flight school, parachuting, minibus transfers, a restaurant and car rentals.

There are hardly any parking spaces for cars in the city, so it is advisable to park your car in one of the parking lots in front of the city, which is usually chargeable. If you want to drive into the city, you definitely have to pay. In summer, free shuttle buses run constantly from the parking lot to Tartiniijev trg, the waiting times are very short. Alternatively, you can walk the route, which takes about 15-20 minutes.

The municipality of Piran is well equipped with cycling and hiking trails that invite you to go hiking from short to one-day. Between Strunjan and Portorož there is even a former railway tunnel with a length of 550 meters as a fast connection.

The place Piran itself is very small and has very narrow streets. You can only move around on foot, which is not a problem, as you can cross the entire place in no more than half an hour.

There are frequent buses between Piran and Portorož. The price for one trip is 1.50 euros (summer 2016).

  • Bathing: You can swim everywhere on the bank, if you want to sit down in a café afterwards, this is usually only a few steps away. However, the shore is very stony, and those who want a beach are better off in Portorož.
  • Bike tours and hikes through the municipality of Piran on the well-developed bike and hiking trails along the coast and overland.
