Map of Rovinj

Parking is often difficult. The 3 Valdiora car park, which is directly at the market and therefore closest to the old town, is often closed to tourists on Saturday evening. The stewards only allow residents to park. There is an overview of the parking spaces and parking costs on the Inforovinj.

If you catch a parking claw, just call the numbers given, describe in English where you are and the gentlemen come quickly with their scooters. In 2007 the fine was only approx. € 12. (2015: 500 kn, if paid within three days 250 kn).

Tourist Attractions

  • Old town. The peninsula of the old town with its winding streets and its Romanesque-Gothic cityscape has numerous buildings from the Renaissance and Baroque periods.
  • Coastal landscape. A trip to the upstream Islands, e.g. B. the 4 Qatar Island (Sveta Katarina) or the 1 Red island (a dam connects the islands Sveta Andrija and Maškin on a double island) are a must. Glass-bottom boat tours are also offered.
  • 2  Church of St. Euphemia, Trg Sv. Eufemije, 52210, Rovinj, Croatia. The Catholic baroque church from 1736 not only rewards with its sacred space. From the forecourt there is a great view over the city and the bay.

activities

Climb

Directly near Rovinj (also easily accessible on foot) there is a large climbing area with over 100 routes that are well secured (new hooks every 2m). Climbing on natural rocks with beautiful sinter formations as well as slab climbing in a former quarry is possible almost right next to each other. Some routes are located directly by the sea, here you can cool off, which is urgently necessary, especially in summer.
How to get there: In Rovinj, follow the obvious signs to the hotel Eden. You drive past it on the left, continue down the street until you see an entrance gate to a park on the right. Park here and follow the path through the gate for about 5 minutes.

There are two in the immediate vicinity further climbing areas:

  • at the Limski Canal, with a beautiful view over this fjord. Unfortunately not easy to find: From Rovinj you drive back to the expressway between Koper and Pula. Shortly before, follow the signs "Limski Kanal", then at the crossroads in the valley go straight up the mountain again. Shortly after the place name sign for ??? Turn left and then left again 30m further. After a few meters, an unpaved path begins. You shouldn't be confused by the sign that this path is closed.
  • at the ruins of the castle Dvigrad

To go biking

There are mostly well-developed and signposted cycle paths on the coast; but sometimes also very bad. (Have a map of the cycle route available at a tourist information office). In Rovinj you can rent bicycles, supposedly quite cheap.

Swimming

Bathing and swimming is possible in the middle of the city at the marked points approximately from the height of the Church of St. Euphemia. Since it is a stony rocky coast, bathing shoes are advisable. Due to the high volume of traffic on sports boats, it is essential to keep to the areas delimited by buoys. Naturally, nudism is not allowed in the city. Anyone who is mobile will find the opportunity to tan seamlessly outside of the city.

shop

Handicrafts in the alleys of the old town

The daily 1 market Rovinj market offers a wide range of fresh vegetables and local products such as olive oil, wines and truffles. The chains with pepperoni, garlic and bay leaf are a nice souvenir. The grapes in the second row are also of excellent quality and the sellers aren't that pushy. Freshly caught fish is available in a small hall next to the market.

In the narrow streets there are a variety of small shops with handicrafts. Much of it turns out to be mass-produced goods from the Far East on closer inspection. But there are still some designers and artisans who stand out from the crowd with real craftsmanship and unique pieces.

The prices are often also written in euros, but officially you can only pay in the local currency, the kuna.

kitchen

In general, keep your eyes open! Many restaurants at the foot of the old town offer a great ambience and a grandiose panorama on the terrace. But what is on the plate is often expensive by Croatian standards and does not impress with its quality. Many tourists only come once anyway - they have to be fobbed off quickly in order to have a high throughput. This is understandable from the point of view of the catering industry, since the earnings for the whole year have to be earned in a few months, but annoying for the customer. Therefore: Don't be fooled by the ambience and the good sight and rather look for something a little apart. There are also many good restaurants outside the old town.

nightlife

1  Caffe Bar XL, 52210, Rovinj, Croatia. Located at the foot of the Church of St. Euphemia behind a wrought-iron gate, it simply impresses with its panorama. Very relaxed atmosphere and completely humane prices for the location. Simply a magnificent view - even during the day.Open: daily from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m.
