background

General plan, Playa del Inglés on the right

The resort Playa del Inglés emerged only after 1962, when the peninsula on the south coast of Gran Canaria under the name Maspalomas Costa Canaria was developed for tourism. This article covers the eastern parts of the peninsula, which is primarily the area covered by the Avenida de Gran Canaria is included and as the center of Playa del Inglés can be viewed, plus the one between the busy street GC-500 and the highway GC-1 lying district San Fernando, in which primarily locals live who work as service staff in the tourist facilities.

getting there

You fly to Gran Canaria by plane and land on the 27 km away Aeropuerto de Gran Canaria. Package holidaymakers usually take a shuttle bus to their holiday destination from there, but there are also bus connections, e.g. lines 1 and 4.

Tourist Attractions

The tourist-oriented place has no special sights, there are some remarkable hotel complexes, some of them still concrete in their original state from the 1970s, but increasingly also lovingly restored concrete castles.

Churches

Interior, ecumenical church

The ecumenical church at the shopping center Kasbah is a modern building, but the colorful glazing is worth seeing. Address: Templo Ecumenico El Salvador, Playa del Inglés, 35100 Maspalomas, Tel. 928 770 496 or 928 760 603

Paseo Costa Canaria

From San Agustin The next beach promenade starts at the Hotel EUROPALACE with a staircase, about 80 steps have to be overcome, then you are in Playa del Inglés - in the east - at / in the "Centro Comercial Tropical" and at the "Mirador Tropica", the height here is 25 , 40 m above "NN" or the beach. At the "Avenida de Alfereces Provisionales" this is at the "Hotel Ifa Dunamar" there is a staircase with about 75 steps down to the beach, a little earlier at the "Shopping Center Atlantik Beach Club" you could use an elevator, but this does not lead on the "beach level". On the other side of the street, here is the "Hotel Sahara", you can climb this number of steps again and continue along the promenade to the dunes, here is the "Parque Sahara Beach Club" or the " Hotel Riu Palace ". On the promenade you are regularly approached by people who Scratch cards have to give away. Or else you get Friendship bracelets for free, the person in question expects a small consideration, of course, but EXTREME CAUTION is requested here! because there can also be "trick thieves" among the "ladies", they are very dexterous. The innumerable cats that are fed with food by compassionate people in the evening are harmless.
