Porcia (pronunciation Porcìa) is a city of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

To know

It is a town close to the provincial capital, Pordenone, of which conurbation is part.

Geographical notes

The northern part of the municipal territory, north of the railway line, is characterized by a gravelly and permeable soil, which leads to several "underground rivers", which meet in the south, at the height of the main inhabited center, impermeable layers, going up towards the surface and giving rise to the phenomenon of resurgences.

Background

Porcia is a town that developed from the 10th-11th century around its castle, which at the time was part of the territory of the nearby center of Prata di Pordenone. At the beginning of the thirteenth century, following a division of the assets of the family of the lords of Prata, its autonomy began with the birth of the fief. From the fifteenth century it was subjected to the Republic of Venice and its fate followed.
