Territories and tourist destinations
- Beira Alta - A region of highlands engraved by deep valleys carved by the Côa, Mondego and Noéme rivers and crossed by mountain ranges such as the Serra da Marofa, Jarmelo and the Serra da Estrela (Monti della Stella). The latter was known in antiquity as Monti di Hermínios (Herminius Mons) and was the birthplace of Viriato, the Lusitanian warrior who gave the Roman legions a hard time. Today the Stella mountains are a destination for both summer and winter domestic tourism. Indeed, it is home to the only ski resort in [[Portugal.

- Aveiro - A lagoon city, Aveiro is nicknamed the Venice of Portugal.
- Belmonte - A town of about 7,000 inhabitants, famous for an important Jewish community which, although converted to Catholicism, continued to practice its rites in secret (marranos, escaping the courts of the holy inquisition.
- Castelo Branco - District capital, Castelo Branco is a typical provincial town, base for excursions to the traditional villages of Monsanto and Idanha-a-Velha.
- Coimbra - Capital of Portugal before Lisbon, Coimbra is famous for its university, the oldest in the country.
- Covilhã - University town on the southern slope of the Serra da Estrela
- Figueira da Foz - Located on the mouth of the Mondego river, Figueira da Foz acquired national fame as a seaside resort since the early decades of the twentieth century.
- Fatima
- Look - City over 1,000 m. above sea level, Guarda was founded at the end of the 12th century as a military outpost against the Moors and later against the Spaniards.

- Tomar - Famous for the convent of Christ, founded by the Knights Templar
- Viseu - District capital, Viseu is a pleasant provincial town, famous for having welcomed the camp from which Viriato conducted his guerrilla actions against the Roman legions.

- Manteigas - Village on the Stella mountains, base for excursions to Torre, the highest peak in Portugal continental (1993 m).
