History

Bartoszyce Poviat was established by the decision of the Council of Ministers on May 29, 1946 from the poviat Prussian Iławkawhose capital was on the side of the USSR. On December 31, 1961, the town of Górowo Iławeckie and 9 clusters from the liquidated Górowo County were incorporated into the poviat. Completed as a result of the administrative reform of 1975, restored in 1999.
