History

The Będzin Poviat as an independent administrative unit was separated from the Olkusz poviat in 1867, covering the vast area of ​​the Piotrków Governorate with an area of ​​1,390 km² and 80 thousand square meters. residents. Then it was located in one of the most industrialized areas of the Russian Empire, called The Dąbrowski Basin. In reborn Poland, it covered, with some breaks, 4 cities that are today the center of Zagłębie: Bedzin, Czeladz, Dąbrowa Górnicza and Sosnowiec. In 1975 it was liquidated as a result of an administrative reform. At that time, it covered an area of ​​360 km² and consisted of 124 thousand. residents. It was re-established in 1990.
