Sosnowiec is a city located in Voivodeship of Silesia, region of the Poland.

To know

Polish city in Silesian Voivodeship northeast of Katowice, of which the urban area is part. The city is primarily an industrial center and owes its development mainly to its location.

Background

In 1939 it was invaded, as part of Poland by Nazi troops and in this period the city experienced the first enmities of Nazis towards the Jewish community, at the time very developed in Sosnowiec.

When Poland was divided Sosnowiec joined the Reich with Lodz is Czestochowa. A little further east was the border with the Protectorate which included among the other cities Warsaw, Krakow is Lublin.
