History

The Rybnik Poviat is situated in the south-western part of the Silesian Province. In the present administrative system, it was established on January 1, 1999 under an administrative reform. The Rybnik poviat celebrated the 190th anniversary in 2008, while the oldest mentions of it date back to the 13th century, when the Cistercian Order of Rudy was responsible for the economy in these lands.
