Nyingchi Prefecture (林芝 地区, Línzhī Dìqū) is a prefecture Chinese of the Tibet in the province of Southwest China.

Geographical notes
Nyingchi Prefecture is located in the lower reaches of the Yarlung Zambo River. At an average altitude of 3000 meters a.s.l.
Mount Namjagbarwa and the Yarlung Zangbo River form the largest canyon in the world, 496.3 km long with a maximum depth of 5,382 meters, and is the most interesting of all the prefecture's tourist attractions.
Culture and traditions
It is home to Tibetans and several other ethnic minorities such as the Monbas and Lobas, characterized by their particular habits and customs.

- Bayi (八一 镇) - Capital of the prefecture.
- County of Bomê ((波密 县; Bōmì Xiàn) - Lived for a long time in complete isolation.
- Mainling County (米林县; Mǐlín Xiàn) - The local economy is supported by agriculture and the forest industry.
- Nyingchi County (林芝 县; Línzhī Xiàn) - It is located in the middle course of the Yarlung Tsangpo River.
Other destinations
- Yarlung Zangbo River Canyon - The Yarlung Zangbo River makes a horseshoe-shaped curve at the foot of Mount Namjagbarwa, with the water lapping against the rocky mountain generating a deafening din. Water that over the years has created a miraculous geographical work that consists of an immense canyon 496.3 km long and over 5 km deep. In 1994, the discovery of this canyon by Chinese scientists, reverberated in all the newspapers cataloging it as the largest canyon in the world.
- Basum lake - Includes the Basum Lake Holiday Resort, Tibet's first tourist resort is in Gongbo Gyamda County. The resort is heavily wooded, and in its center lies Lake Basum framed by the nearby mountains.
- Ranwu Lake - Lake Ranwu is a perfect fusion of snow capped peaks Alps Swiss and the glaciers and streams of Jiuzhaigou (a nice little town in central China).
- Yarlong River National Park
- Medog Nature Reserve - The largest nature reserve in the China with the best preserved primitive jungle. In its lower part it is located in an area of 460,000 hectares that slopes from north to south on the southern slope of the Himalayas in Medog County, southeast of the Tibet.
How to get
By bus
Bayi, the capital of the Nyingtri province, can be reached by public and private transport from the public bus station of Lhasa. Large buses will make the journey in around nine hours for ¥ 80, while private cars allow you to cut the journey time to just six hours for around ¥ 150. Both buses and cars have no scheduled departure times, but rather depart when full of passengers. Technically, a special permit is required (Alien Travel Permit) to visit the region, but there are no checkpoints on State Route 319 to Bayi or within Bayi itself.

The area between Mount Namjagbarwa and the Yarlung Zangbo River, as well as the ethnic minorities that populate it, are the most interesting of all the prefecture's tourist attractions.
