The mountain range of the Alps is first in Europe and third in the world for maximum height, preceded only by the Himalayas and the Andes. The Alpine arc is more than 1,500 m long and crosses 9 states.
Geographical notes
Mont Blanc is the highest mountain in the Alps with 4,810.90 m a.s.l. and is located on the border between Italy is France. They follow the Monte Rosa (4,634 m), the Sun (4,545 m), the Weisshorn (4,505 m) and the Matterhorn (4,476 m); other peaks are the Gran Paradiso, the Bernina and the Monviso.

Swiss Alps - A region that is one of the most recognizable symbols of Switzerland. The region covers approximately 65% of the Swiss surface (41,285 km²), making Switzerland one of the most alpine countries. The highest point in the Swiss Alps is the Monte Rosa which rises to 4,634 m a.s.l. The region is also famous for containing around 1,800 glaciers, which also includes the longest glacier in the Alps: the Aletsch Glacier. Includes Bernese Oberland, Canton of Valais is Canton of Grisons.
Austrian Alps - The highest point in the Austrian Alps is Mt. Großglockner which rises to 3,797 m s.l.m. Includes Vorarlberg, Tyrol is Salzburg.
French Alps - The region is also known for its extraordinary beauty, including many alpine lakes, the largest of which is the Lake Geneva (Lake Geneva), the Annecy lake and the Bourget lake; these lakes attract tourists all year round due to their beauty and access to numerous water sports. This region is also home to the famous tourist resorts of Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, Saint-Gervais-les-Bains, Albertville (1992 Winter Olympic Games), Grenoble (1968 Winter Olympics) e Annecy with its old town and lake. Its highest point in the Alps is the Mont Blanc, which rises to 4,810 m, although the mountain is shared with the Italian Alps.
Italian Alps - The highest point in the Italian Alps, except for the Mont Blanc, is the Mt. Gran Paradiso which rises to 4.061 m.
Bavarian Alps - The region, which constitutes only less than 3% of the total area of the Germany, is considered one of the most beautiful landscapes in the country and there are those who consider it one of the most scenic places in the wholecentral Europe.
Julian Alps - Much of the Julian Alps is included in the Tricorno National Park in Slovenia. The highest point of the Julian Alps is the Mount Tricorno which rises to 2,864 m.
