Ascent on foot
The ascent of Mont Blanc is technically not very difficult, but the altitude still requires essential sports training. Every year several thousand people go up and accidents are almost always due to the poor preparation of mountaineers. A guide is recommended if you do not know the region (cost: € 660 for one or two people).
The right time is July and August.
The ascent is generally carried out by Saint-Gervais-les-Bains with a stop at Goûter refuge.
Ascent on skis
The ascent of Mont Blanc is a difficult race reserved for very good skiers. It also requires proper training. A guide is recommended if you are unfamiliar with the area.
The best period is from late March to June, depending on the snowfall.
Generally it runs from the Plan de Aiguille (first section of the Aiguille du Midi cable car - Chamonix) with a first day that consists of reaching the Grands Mulets refuge. The second day is the day of the climb itself: the route crosses the small plateau (very exposed to the falls of seracs), then the large plateau, the Vallot refuge (where you leave your skis), and finally joined the summit from the crest of the bumps. Another alternative, a little more technical, is to cross the three mountains: Mont-Blanc du Tacul, Mont Maudit, Mont Blanc and then descend its north face to the Grands Mulets refuge.
